While I normally photograph sessions in the Twin Cities and Western Wisconsin areas, I was eager to travel to Marshfield after I received the news that Abby and Jared had welcomed a BABY GIRL! If you haven't read their story and seen their maternity session, go read it here :)

In the last 2 months I've watched my friend move into motherhood and it's been so exciting; the struggles of labor, recovery, sleep deprivation, breastfeeding.....ya know, all the normal stuff. It's a right of passage and I knew Abby was THERE when she said to me "I can't even imagine having to look good now." Isn't this EVERY new mama?? It's fine - we've all gone 3 days without a shower, we've all forgotten what we looked like with makeup on or what it felt like to sleep more than 3-4 hours at a time, and we've all cried out in pain when breastfeeding our newborn babies.

But it doesn't last long. Before you know it, those tough moments are a distant memory and so are the precious ones. They happen simultaneously and it's so important to stop and savor them. I remember reminding myself to just sit and breath, soaking up the things I felt so lucky to be able to do with my children, despite how hard it was sometimes.

And let's not forget about the doting fathers who are forever changed when they hold the little pumpkins in their arms. When I watched Jared hold Kinley, talking and cooing to her as she looked him right in the eyes, I felt really lucky to be able to see those precious moments which is just my favorite part about photographing families in their home.
